Dpt. of Pediatric and Abdominal Emergency Surgery was created on March 15th, 2006 The Head office at 7 floor at the High Tech. Center. Consist of :

   - Proctology center

   - 61 patient-beds.   

   There are 6 doctors (1 Ass. Prof , 1 PhD, 2 postgraduates, 1 master of science and 1 doctor) and 9 nurses (1 graduate in nursing).

I. History of development:

Since the foundation of Hue Central Hospital (in 1894), the Consultation Unit has been put into operation, developed and changed its position under different names: the External Diagnosis- Emergency Unit, General Practice – Emergency Clinic, and finally the Consultation Unit. The unit was previously situated at the hospital’s side – gate on Nguyen Huy Tu Street (now known as Odonto – Stomatology Unit, Otolaryngology Unit, and Medical Laser Application Unit). From 19 October 2006, the Consultation Unit moved to Level 1-2, ODA Building, 01 Hai Ba Trung Street.

III. Professional activities

Every day, about 250 to 350 patients are hospitalized in the unit for consultation and emergency care.

1.      The consultation clinics: consists of 12 genernal practice consultation and specialization, 01 Smart – Hospital LAN – managed medical check – up clinic; all of which are always available for receiving to consultation, treatment, non- resident treatment, treatment upon requests, medical check – up … and which serve various kinds of people and functions: study, job application, car and train driving, medical assessment, labor export, marriage, studying abroad, traveling abroad. The unit has also organizied many courses of consultation – treatment for out- patients, health classification, health monitorring for officers and staff at offices, companies, entrepreneurs on demand.

2.      The laboratory: the lab is equipped with modern machines. It operates in connection with para – clinical units to offer quick, prompt and accurate laboratory results on Biochemical, Hematology – Blood transfusion, Anapathology, Micro – Biology…

3.      The genernal practice emergency care clinic: functioning in standing regulations, consultation and provide emergency care for patients 24/24 hours. This clinic receives the emergency cases of Thua Thien Hue province and other provinces of the Middle and Highland.

Sub- Units:

-         01 Intensive Recovery unit equipped with modern facilities.

-         02 treatment wards with frequent care, which includer 20 beds.

-         02 after minor – surgery treatment wards, treatment of wounds due to accidents, diseases relating to tumors, hypodermic abscecces, phymosis.

-         02 wardes for treatment upon request.

-         01 group taking care os out – patient emergency, with 24/24 available ambulances.

During the past few years, the consultation unit has offered emergency services to seriously – ill patients of Internal Treatment – Surgery, Scald and Anti – toxic units, who have finally overcome the nearly – impossible treatment ability.

The Consultation uint also performs the emergency services for multi – trauma, instant care for life – threatening diseases and mass accidents. The pocedure goes throngh a perfect system of reception, diagnosis and treatment.

II. Professional activities of Department:

Department of Internal Medicine- Nephrology-Urology-Muscular Osteo Arthrology performs the main tasks as followed:

-         Diagnosis, treatment and monitoring nephric diseases, urinary diseases, muscular-osteo-arthral diseases and some other pathological kinds.

-         Hemodialysis unit is responsible for the treatment of acute and chronic kidney failure.

-         Selecting pairs of donor-receiver of kidney transplant cases, treating for patients after kidney transplants, treating for out-come patients and watching kidney transplant patients and kidney donors.

-         Carrying out early public health care.

III.           Major tasks

1.     Professional roles

One of the main centers in the Central part of Vietnam in the speciality of Nephrology- Hemodialysis -Kidney transplant.

-         The department performed emergent hemadialysis for acute kidney failure patients in 1982 and has also performed periodical artificial kidney since 1995. Until now hemodialysis unit has developed and improved in all fields so as to respond to the need of treatment for acute kidney failure patients, to perform periodical for patients with chronic kidney failure the end-stage as well as to prepare well for patients before kidney transplant.

-         The department together with other concerned departments has actively taken part in performing kidney transplants sucessfully since 2001.

                                 Haemodialyse unit

-         Hue Central Hospital is the first center in the country to perform laparoscopic surgery to remove the kidney of the donors.

-         Medically, the department has used anti-interleukin 2 in the prevention for acute transplant elimination.

-         There have been 19 sucessful kidney transplant cases in Hue Central Hospital.

         Kidney transplantation

-         In addition, the department is also in charge of monitoring kidney transplant patients from other centers but there are now living in the areas of central part.

2.     Training task

-         This is one of the departments which has received a lot of post-graduate students coming to do theses of MA, Ph.D, Specialized level 1 and 2 in nephrology, muscular osteo-arthrology.

IV.            Tasks have already and being implemented

1.     Implemented main tasks:

-         Receiving to treat and monitor the cases concorning to uninagy nephric diseases and muscular arthrodiseases.

-         Applying techniques routinely for acute and chronic kidney failure.

-         Preparing before kidney transplant, treating and monitoring patients after transplant.

2.     Tasks to be done in the coming time:

-         Carrying out techniques of peritoneal hemodialysis for chronic kidney failure patients the end-stage with the administration of the doctor.

-         Developing new, modern technicques in the diagnosis and treament for diseases of muscles, bones and joints.

From the reunion of our till now, with the development and integration of Hue Central Hospital, Dept of Odonto - Stomatology has greatly developed with a staff of over 30 member. The Directory staff which consist of Doctor Specialized level 2 Nguyen Viet Son, Doctor Specialized level 2 Tran Van Qua and Doctor Nguyen Toai Ph. D have devoted their time and their enthusiasm, to help their colleagues and to encourage, facilitating all the doctors as well as dental nurses in the department to improve and update their knowledge received from other large dental centers in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh city and alls from the countries having modern medical fields such as Germany, American and France, Thailand....

At present, the department staff include 02 Doctors with Ph. D, 02 Doctors with Specialized level 2, 1 Doctor with Master degree and 1 Registration nurse. All of the doctors in the department have completed post - graduate course. Besides with the help of Japanese government (ODA Project) Dept of Odonto Stomatology has received the most modern technology in dentistry such as dental chair system, prosthetic laboratory and digital X-ray machine.

Operation activities

As a matter of fact, Dept of Odonto - Stomatology is tasked by Ministry of Medicine to be responsible for dental health care in the central part and highland provinces. It’s also the place to train hundreds of doctors Specialized in Odonto - Stomatology and dental nurses for Hue college of Medicine and Pharmacy and Medical junior colleges in Da Nang and Thua Thien  Hue…..

Dept of Odonto - Stomarology is also a reliable address which can respond to all kinds ordinary dental treatments such as dental prosthetics and maxillo - facial surgery. It can also perform the most modern techniques in restorative and cosmetics dentistry such as dental implant, dental – facial orthopedics and dental plastic surgery.

In addition, every year Dept of Odonto - Stomatology cooperates with international volunteer associations such as: Operation Smile, Korea Deviemed(Germany).. to perform free operations for hundreds of plato - labial defect children in TT Hue and other provinces such as Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Quang Nam…,  a poor land suffering from orange poisons in the war.

In the following years, Dept of Odonto Stomatology will establish a counselling office to aid in the treatment for plato - labial defect childrens and to call for the humanity of all organizations and individuals in the country and all over the world to help these unhappy defect children with the purpose of “Children smile”.

In onder to be worthy of being a parts of a heroic hospital, an uppermost specialized medical center in the central part, Dept of Odonto Stomatology will continue to enhance its level of specialization, to update its dental knowledge and scientific researches so as to serve dental health care better and better.
